You weren't sure where to go once you finished up with Izaya. You couldn't just go back to Shinra, since you told him that you couldn't  come in today. Hopefully he just thought that you were sick. That would be the logical thing to think when someone texts you, saying that they can't come into work today. Still, you should have texted him back with some kind of excuse. You just didn't want to lie to him. You may not have told him why, but you didn't lie and give him a fake reason as to why you couldn't come in. You didn't want to break his trust, or Celty's for the matter.

One foot after another, you just kept continuing to walk. You didn't know where you were going, but that didn't really matter to you. A nice, long walk would help you go over things in your head. You deserved something relaxing. You weren't saying that your life was stressful, but everyone needed time to go over everything that had happened. It helped put things in perspective.

Celty really seemed to hate Izaya...Hate? No, that wasn't real. Shizuo hated Izaya, with a burning passion. But, Celty didn't.  Celty didn't trust Izaya, that was better. That meant that he had done something, though you couldn't start to guess what, which caused Celty to throw her trust in him away. It had to be something bad...But, what?

Yeah, you would admit that Izaya didn't seem like the best person. He just seemed to be a normal jerk, just doing things because he wanted to. You know, cutting in line and stuff like that. You couldn't imagine him doing anything that would warrant getting a vending machine thrown at him. Really, you couldn't think of anything that would warrant that, but you weren't sure. You just wanted to know the truth about Izaya, not secrets.

You would ask Celty the next time you saw her. You could text her while not being close to her, but it seemed like it should be something she tells you in person. If it was that bad, she probably wouldn't want it saved in her phone. Still, you couldn't even start to guess what he could have done.

And, let's say, if he truly is that bad, what have you gotten yourself dropped into? You weren't positive, but you didn't feel like he was going to let get out of this deal that you had made with him. He probably had a plan, if he was the man Celty was trying to  convince you he was. Yet, you were just going to have to deal with it. A deal's a deal, after all.

"Hey!" You jumped as you heard a harsh voice shout, though it didn't seem to be angry. The voice was just gruff, which gave it a sound of someone who might be threatening you. You turned around to see a man with his hands in his pockets, cigarette in his mouth, and bartender outfit on.

"Oh, Shizuo. You scared me." You smiled, watching as Shizuo walked over to you.

"What are you doing out here? It's gonna get dark soon." He looked down at you through his sunglasses, his eyebrows knitted together. It wasn't that he was angry at you, more like he was worried.

"Yeah, I know. Truthfully, I didn't really know what I was doing. I just was taking a walk, you know?" You felt comfortable around him, almost as if you had known him since you were little. You didn't question the comfort, you just accepted it. The more friends that you could have, the better. You were never going to refuse a friend.

"Well, Celty told me about how she met you, so I don't think you should be out after it gets dark." His voice sounded like he was chiding you, almost like a child. But, what he was saying was true. You shouldn't be out at night until you learned to defend yourself, at least slightly. You wouldn't want a repeat of the last time.

"I will head home now, if that will make you happy." You knew it sounded like you were annoyed at him by your specific word choice, but you weren't. A huge smile stayed on your face, enjoying hearing those words he said. No matter who you were, it was nice to be reminded that people cared and worried for you. Obviously this shouldn't be happening all the time, such as would happen with an overprotective and maybe controlling person. But, it was nice to just reminded that you mattered to someone every once in awhile.

"You won't be able to get home before it gets dark. Come on, just start walking." He said and when you didn't start he continued, "Well, are you gonna start walking?!" You swore you saw a red tint on his cheeks.

You quickly turned around to hide your own blush before starting to walk toward your house. He was right. It would take around fifteen to twenty minutes to get to your house and it would already be dark by then. You didn't have to look back to see Shizuo following you, hands probably stuffed in his pockets. You could hear the slight click coming from his fancy shoes. You wondered what he would look like in casual clothes, though you thought you would prefer to see him wear these clothes. Fancy clothes seemed to make you attracted to someone, though you weren't sure why.

"So, Shizuo-sama-" You started but got interrupted by the man behind you.

"Just call me Shizuo, okay? No need for that sama crap. I'm not above you in any way. I'm just another person, like you."

"Right, okay." You nodded, "So, Shizuo, what were you doing out here at this time? I mean, you can obviously handle yourself, but were you out here for a specific reason?" You glanced back at him to see that he was staring at you. But, you didn't think it was like he was staring at your body. More just staring at you, your voice. It showed that he was actually listening, not just half listening like you felt he was at times.

"I had just finished up one of my jobs. Didn't want to head home yet."

"Oh, your job? What do you do?"

"Bodyguard, I suppose." You nodded, showing that you had heard what he had said.

"Well, guess I don't have to tell you what I do."

"Yeah...How did you start that?" Shizuo asked, though he seemed almost nervous to ask, as if he was trying to see if that was alright to do.

        "Mmm, what do you mean?"

"Like, the whole doctor thing. You're too young to be a licensed doctor and I doubt that if you were one, you would be working with Shinra. You don't just decide to become an unlicensed doctor one day."

"Oh.." You bit your lip gently in thought, trying to decide what would be the best thing to tell him. The truth, obviously. It wasn't that you were worried about. You weren't worried, really just curious. Curious as to where it would be the best place to start. Once you found it, you nodded to yourself, almost as if you signal to yourself to start talking.

"Well, my father, he was like Shinra. He would bring in all these people that I didn't know and fix them up. I didn't understand at that age as to what he was doing, but as I got older, he taught me. It started because he needed help with some of the surgeries, so I became something close to a nurse to him, or a surgeon's assistant. But, I got interested in it and he decided to actually teach me how to do the stuff on my own. The rest of it from there is basically history." You smiled, now walking in time with Shizuo. He nodded, pushing up his glasses with one hand before flicking the ashes off of his cigarette.

"How did you become a bodyguard, I mean, other than your strength? I would think there would have to have something else that would make you start in that direction." He looked like he may have flinched, but you couldn't tell. Was it something you said? Did you say something bad? You shouldn't have brought it up! You were just trying to do what normal friends do and learn more about him.

"When I got fired from one of my jobs, Tom offered me this one." He said, not going into anymore detail. You decided not to push it, since it wasn't your place. You could easily tell that something about Shizuo's past bothered him. But, didn't everyone have something in their past that they didn't want to talk about?

Your apartment building came into view and you decided that you were glad that Shizuo had made you walk with him. It felt nice to talk to someone like this, as just a friend. You considered Shinra and Celty friends, sure, but almost more as family than friends, if that made any sense. They seemed so close to you, even closer than friends. Your family away from home. But, Shizuo was different. He seemed like he could actually become on of your friends.

"Here's my stop." You joked, as if the two of you were on a train, "Thanks for walking me here. I really enjoyed it."

"Yeah, well, I didn't want you getting hurt again. You wouldn't be a help to anyone like that." You knew he was just trying to act tough. He obviously wanted to make sure that you were safe just because of he was worried about your general health. Shizuo seemed like the type of guy that would walk almost any girl home if she looked like she needed it. Not because that girls need protecting but more as a comfort, as if to say, hey nothing is going to happen at all.

You quickly pulled out a piece of paper, tearing it out from your small medical notebook you carried everywhere. You wrote down your phone number and extended your arm, offering it to Shizuo. He slowly took it, though he seemed confused as to what it was originally.

"It's my number, so we can see each other again. Now we won't have to just wait for fate to let us see each other." You laughed at what you said, thinking it sounded so stupid and silly. You began to walk up the steps and took one final glance back at Shizuo.

"See ya later, Shizuo." You waved before heading inside to go to your apartment, all safe in sound, thanks to Shizuo.
