Snape sat at his desk, checking tests that his students had turned in. Even though it was still early in the new school year, he had already given a few tests. He never went easy on his students. They needed to understand how potions worked since it was such a finicky subject. One thing wrong and the worst thing could happen. Plus he planned on getting through all of this lesson plans. Everything was planned perfectly and he couldn't be distracted by distractions.

The only sound that could be heard in the room was the sound of the quill writing on the parchment. This was how Severus liked it. No bothersome students ruining his day. He was calm and in his element. All of the students had been sent back to their dorms, so there was no possibility that a student would bother him. Most of the teachers were also in their personal areas, only a few still in their classrooms. Snape seemed to be one of the teachers who stayed in his room the latest. He was serious about his work and he was going to make sure he did it well.

Quiet footsteps were heard, yet Snape didn't look up. He didn't feel like he had to. He was in his zone and he didn't want to break that. No one was worth it. If it was another teacher, then it couldn't be important. Everyone knew that they shouldn't mess with Snape when he was in his classroom. Even if he wasn't in his classroom, almost all the teachers keep out of his way. If it was a student, then they wouldn't be in his room. Barely any students were brave enough (or stupid enough) to sneak out of their dorms, and none of them was stupid enough to sneak into Snape's room. So, whatever the distraction was, it didn't matter to the grumpy professor.

That was when Severus saw a pair of hands with dark blue nail polish rest on his desk. He sighed quietly as he remembered that there was one thing that he would pause his checking for. He looked up to see you looking down at him. You weren't wearing your normal outfit. Instead, you were wearing a loose button up shirt with a comfy black skirt. This wasn't what you would wear to sleep. You just wanted to make sure that in case someone saw you, they wouldn't think they you were wearing something unprofessional.

"Severus, when will you be done checking tests? The blankets won't warm up unless you come with me." You said a small pout on your face. You hated when it got cold in the personal area that you and Snape shared. It was the closest one to the dungeon, requested by Snape. He wanted it to be close to his classroom. You didn't mind since you were just happy that he had finally agreed to live together. The downside to being so far down was that it got quite cold at night.

"I have to finish checking these tests and then I'll be down. You have to be patient. I can't slow down because of you." Snape said, his deep voice reverberating against the class walls, "You knew that this was going to happen. I am going to continue my work the way I would if you weren't living with me."

You sighed and sat down in one of the student's desks. You knew that he was going to act like this. When he had agreed to live with you, he said that nothing would change. It was a lie, things did change, just not as drastically as you had hoped for. He had become a bit sweeter when the two of you were alone, yet he still acted the same about his work. He put being a teacher before you at times and you could understand that. The two of you had only been officially dating for a year and with a man like him, he needed time to open up. Turns out that was a lot of time. It did get on your nerves at times, but you knew that coming into this relationship. You still weren't sure what he saw in you, but after a few years of the two of you just being weird friends, he asked if you'd like to be his significant other, as he put it.

"Fine, fine." You huffed, resting your elbow on the desk, chin in your hand. Snape continued to check the tests, glancing over at you every now and again. You were entertaining yourself with a potions book that one of the students had left. You would be patient with him and he was grateful for that, even if he didn't show it.

The relationship between the two of you was odd. It wasn't like a normal one where the two of you did lovey-dovey things for each other. You did many things for Snape, while he only did a few big things for you. He showed his appreciation for you in small gestures and expressions, which was enough for you. You each felt love for each other in your own way, a way that wasn't normal. You both felt like you needed the other. You needed Snape because he was one of the few people who could stand you for long periods of times. Most people got annoyed at you but Snape was kind enough to listen to you. Snape needed you to make him feel like he wasn't evil all the time.

After Snape had finished checking all the tests, the two of you headed back into the small area that you shared. You both changed and got into bed. You were right, the sheets were freezing. He could understand why you had wanted another person's body head to try to warm it up.

"Too cold." You turned toward him and snuggled him, a shiver running through your body, "I hope it gets warmer quicker."

Snape glanced down at you, still not used to the contact that you loved so much. He sighed quietly and wrapped his arms slowly around you. He was starting to get used to things like this, though he wasn't sure if he would ever get used to it completely. Snape himself still wasn't sure why he had decided to get this close to you but deep down it felt right.

"Goodnight Severus, love you." You mumbled quietly, your eyes fluttering shut. You slowly drifted off to sleep, but not before you felt Snape hold you tighter.

"Goodnight (Y/N).." He said quietly, not saying the rest. That was fine though, you didn't need to be reassured that he loved you. You knew that he did, even if he didn't say it with words. He showed it in small ways, like these cold cuddles you had at night.
